About The Event
Pigs are used in research for multiple models due to the similarity to humans in size, physiology, and genetics. The pig has made significant strides in advancing the understanding of the human condition and is thus an excellent choice of animal model in the laboratory setting. However, pigs are uncommon in laboratories so technicians have few opportunities to learn proper handling and restraint of pigs. This course  provides an overview of the basics of handling and restraining in a vivarium, and is intended for those with little to no experience with swine. The information given is also designed to teach technicians about pig behavior and physiology, to help maintain safety for the animal and handler.
