About The Event
Swine as an animal model pose a great benefit to Lab Animal Research due to their unique anatomy and many similarities to humans. However, working with large breed swine presents multiple challenges in any environment, especially in a laboratory research setting. So, finding positive and safe methods of interaction, such as voluntary cooperation, is a necessity! The benefits of positive reinforcement training (PRT) when implemented throughout the study not only facilitate safety for all who is involved (researchers, animal care and veterinary staff), it also helps incorporate the refinement in procedures, reduce stress and reliable data. As such, this webinar will present the use of PRT in swine research at CRL-Mattawan. We will also cover the challenges presented when working with larger swine species. This webinar will be presented by Amanda Rainey BS, LATG, Behavior Associate at Charles River.Â
